Windsor to Vancouver — A Cross-Canada Road Trip + GoPro Hero 12 & Sony A6000 Photography

Driving from Windsor to Vancouver is the ultimate Canadian odyssey—4,300 km of landscapes that shift from farmlands to granite lakes, from endless prairies to towering mountains. I documented this journey using a GoPro Hero 12 mounted on the car and a Sony A6000 for handheld photography. Here’s the full breakdown of the route, what I shot, and travel tricks I wish I knew earlier.

The Route: 7 Days Across Canada. Day 1: Windsor → Sault Ste. Marie (GoPro time-lapse of Lake Superior shoreline, A6000 wide-angle landscapes at Chippewa Falls). Day 2: Sault Ste. Marie → Thunder Bay (The legendary Agawa Bay—perfect GoPro POV footage, sunset at Terry Fox Monument). Day 3: Thunder Bay → Winnipeg (Flatlands begin, GoPro windshield shots capture the “infinite roads” aesthetic). Day 4: Winnipeg → Regina → Moose Jaw (A6000 portraits in golden prairie light, grain silos, and cinematic sunsets). Day 5: Moose Jaw → Calgary (Footage of rolling hills transitioning into foothills, stop at Drumheller for insane natural textures). Day 6: Calgary → Banff → Kamloops (A6000 excels in Banff: Lake Louise reflective shots, Moraine Lake valley shots. GoPro handles driving through the Rockies). Day 7: Kamloops → Vancouver (Highway 1 cuts through mountain valleys with waterfalls, fog, and forest POV footage).

Gear Breakdown: GoPro Hero 12 (Best for: Road POV, time-lapse, hyperlapse, rugged footage. Settings: 4K60, Hypersmooth ON). Sony A6000 (Best for: Landscapes, portraits, low light. Recommended Lenses: 16–50mm for travel, 55–210mm for wildlife and mountains).

What This Road Trip Teaches You: Canada is massive—prepare for long stretches of nothing, and then sudden overwhelming beauty. Your camera becomes your journal—each click is a memory you’ll never forget. The Rockies are unmatched—no photo ever feels enough.
